The Mackay Base Hospital is located in West Mackay on the River Bank and the Blue River walk continues through the area to the Mackay Botanic Gardens which are situated towards the southern entrance of the City. Schools, sporting facilities and public transport service all areas.

Ooralea is located at the Mackay City Gates and houses the CQ University Campus and Mackay Turf Club as well as the Ooralea Shopping complex.

Paget sits to the east of the Bruce Highway and is Mackay's major industrial estate. The Railway Station and Mackay Airport are within the Paget area.

Bakers Creek is situated approximately 6kms south of Mackay, a residential suburb that is rapidly growing. Home to Black Springs Golf Course at Ooralea Waters, Bakers Creek has a State Primary school and public transport to nearby Mackay secondary schools and facilities.
